PODCAST
The Ariadne’s Thread Podcast.
Same questions. Different lives. Unexpected answers.
What is a conversation you can still hear in your head?
How do you approach something you’re dreading but cannot avoid? When it matters most, do you choose empathy or logic? Challenge or cooperation?
In the Greek myth, Ariadne’s thread helped Theseus find his way into the maze, face the Minotaur and, importantly, get back out again.
We all have threads like that. The questions, conversations, people and moments that help us find our way.
In The Ariadne’s Thread Podcast, psychologist Professor Laurence Alison and creative practitioner Damian Cooper invite fascinating people from very different walks of life to explore a shared set of questions about human experience.
From FBI agents and criminal prosecutors to actors and artists, every guest faces the same questions. But the answers - and the conversations they provoke - are wonderfully different.
Each episode is a candid, curious and often surprising exploration of the experiences, choices and contradictions that make us human.
Two hosts. One set of questions. Infinite ways of seeing the world.

For our first episode we speak to Vern Pierson.
For more than three decades, Vern has worked at the sharp end of justice. As District Attorney for El Dorado County, California, he's prosecuted some of the state's most serious cases while becoming a leading advocate for science-based interviewing, conviction integrity and improving the way investigators uncover the truth.
We discuss what he’s wrestling with at the moment, conversations that have changed him and The Count of Monte Christo.
