About
In order to generate productive conversations and an opportunity to build rapport, you must first be able to manage difficult interactions. During challenging conversations, we must navigate different types of interactions with different types of people. Sometimes you need to take charge and lead the interaction, other times you need to sit back and listen. Occasionally you may disagree with the other person and need to be firm and direct about the situation, and on other occasions you may find yourself working together collaboratively. We call these four modes of interaction control, capitulate, cooperate, and conflict. This course discusses the four modes of interaction and introduces you to the ORBIT interpersonal wheel, based on theories of personality and interpersonal relating. Course objectives: - To understand the core concepts of interpersonal relating – power and intimacy. - To understand and be able to identify the four styles of relating behaviour - To be able to identify the difference between adaptive and maladaptive relating behaviours. - To know what type of behaviour is best suited to different styles of behaviour. - To identify your own interpersonal strengths and areas for development by taking the ORBIT animal quiz.
